Hana artifacts and photographs; historic Courthouse and jailhouse; thatch living complex illustrating pre-contact Hawaii dwellings; gift shop. Times - Mon-Fri (Sat in busy season) 10am-4pm. Donation $3 per person (children free). Gift shop: Attached to the museum, contains quaint items of interest including Hawaiian arts and crafts. M-F, 10am-4pm.

Kahanu Gardens

Self-guided tours to see the Pi'ilanihali Heiau (largest heiau in the state) and learn about culturally important plants. Times: Mon-Fri 10am and 2pm. Admission: $10/person (children 12 and under free). 808-248-8912 for reservations.

Beaches

 

  • Hamoa Beach: Author James Michener – “The only beach I’ve ever seen that looks like the South Pacific was in the North Pacific”
  • Koki Beach: The red cinder cliffs of Kaiwi O’ Pele Hill overlook the spectacular white sandy beach. Swimmers be wary of the under tow.
  • Waianapanapa State Park: Black sand beach with a Hawaiian legend about fresh water caves
